Census 2000: what is the best way to get an accurate count?
Article Abstract:
The US Constitution requires that a census be conducted every 10 years to determine how many seats each state gets in the House. Furthermore, the census is used for allocation of funds to state and local governments. A battle over how to count all Americans is raging between the Clinton Administration and the Republican Congress. Democrats think that the bureau should use "statistical sampling," while Republican leaders oppose the idea on the basis that it is politically motivated. They charge that Democrats are manipulating the numbers for partisan gain.

Diversity in the workplace: is it good for business?
Article Abstract:
The increasingly diverse workforce has both benefited business through better reflecting the customer base and complicated management of employees because of increased tensions. However, companies have been slow to capitalize on the advantages of a diverse workforce and have not responded to the challenges in a way that encourages acceptance over opposition.

Line-item veto
Article Abstract:
The Line Item Veto Act allows the president to eliminate specific spending items within five days of signing a bill into law and advocates of the line item veto believe it help control frivolous federal spending. President Clinton will be the first chief executive to have this power though former presidents such as Bush, Reagan, Eisenhower, and Grant have asked Congress for similar powers. Opponents of the act believe it affords the president too much power in lobbying for specific issues.
