America Online unveiled its product and marketing strategy at Internet World in Apr 2000 in Dulles, VA. The company said it is partnering with Gateway to launch a line of information appliaces in late 2000. The appliances, which will solely provide Web access and run only Web-based applications, are designed to be a leaner and smaller alternative to PCs. The company also disclosed details about its Netscape 6.0 Web browser and AOL-TV.

Oracle's hiring of a private detective agency to spy on Microsoft has become a common practice in a cutthroat global marketplace. Practically all Fortune 500 firms have the ability to conduct the practice which is known as competitive intelligence. But the habit of investigators to steal laptop computers as well as their attempts to buy trash have ignited questions about the legality of engaging in such practices. Oracle's tactic, however, has overpowered the value of the information that it found.

America Online Inc (AOL) solidifies its attempt to branch out from personal computers to other devices and popularize Web-based software with the replacement of Marc Andreesen with William Raduchel as chief technology officer.
