Chrysler experiments with new Brazil plant
Article Abstract:
Chrysler is inaugurating on Jul. 7, 1998, a $315-million pickup factory in Campo Largo, on the southern coast of Brazil, in a bid to take a new measure in global manufacturing. The new Campo Largo plant, which is the company's third plant in South America and its first pickup factory outside North America, makes Dodge Dakota pickups that will be marketed mainly in Argentina and Brazil. Chrysler Brazil President Dennis Kelly stressed that the Campo Largo pickup plant is a "learning field" for measures that Chrysler is undertaking to boost the role of suppliers in developing the company's vehicles.
