Continental, Delta seek 'pause' to airline deals
Article Abstract:
Continental and Delta airline CEOs have called for a moratorium on airline mergers. Their move is in response to the ongoing merger among American Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways. The deal would result in the creation of two airlines with a nationwide market share of about 50%. The executives are urging for a blockage of the deal by antitrust authorities. Once the US Airways deal goes through, they fear that other airlines will be forced to combine, be carved up, or be put out of business by the onslaught brought on by the American and United cartel.

Northwest Airlines' 4 1/2-year-old labor dispute with the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Assn, the union representing its mechanics and other workers, may be solved by a presidential emergency board appointed by Pres Bush. Northwest has pledged to accept the board's recommendations while the union declared that it will wait to see the board's proposals.
