Issues concerning the rumoured use of the consulting firm Access Economics to conduct policy costings for Labor leader Kim Beazley are discussed. The company's previous work in performing economic analysis for the Liberal and Labor parties is examined.

Conviction politics: A remarkable truce has broken out between the government and the opposition over the Corby case

Article Abstract:

Labor Party's foreign affairs spokesman Kevin Rudd and opposition leader Kim Beazely have accepted unanimously that to demand Australian government's intervention in Schapelle Corby's drug trafficking case would be to attack the Indonesian legal system. The Corby case was discussed between Australian and Indonesian ministers at a forum in Canberra, whereby two courses of action were open, one of them being to conclude a prisoner transfer agreement with Indonesia.

The Australian Labor Party's poll ratings are debated over with its fallback reputation of not fighting over anything of substance other than squabbling over the spoils of opposition. Labor voters are presented with some of the leader's performance who would make difference to Labor's chances at ballot.
