Daimler workers prefer package to layoff

A large number of DaimlerChrysler Caanda Inc. employees plan to take early retirement, reducing the number of layoffs at the auto plant. Although the company is cutting 2,700 jobs, less than half of them, roughly 1,300, will be layoffs.
