Dollar dilemma

Article Abstract:

The change in the exchange rate of the Australian dollar will result in a fall in export receipts, hit tourism industry that has already seen a collapse as a result of terrorist-induced cuts in air travel and the impact of the SARS virus. If Japan and Europe remain sick then the global economy will not only remain on the dollar standard but it will be dependent on the U.S. as the sole engine of growth.

The sleep of reason breeds contagion of the markets

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between the global exchange rate system and the Australian dollar, and argues that at some point Australia will have to tie the value of its currency to that of the US dollar. Relevant points include the failure of the present global exchange rate system to function as expected and the consequent need for Australians to change expectations accordingly.
