Grassroots resistance greets Surrey Metro deal

Canada Trust Co's bid to acquire Surrey Metro Savings Credit Union for $131 million has meet strong oppostion from the client-members of Surrey. The C$24-per-share offer was a 60% premium above the prebid price of Surrey Metro shares. The opposing group said that a takeover by a bank- like financial institution would take the control of the credit union out of the client-members' hands.
