Don't look down
Article Abstract:
The United States economy has enjoyed a growth period almost unprecedented for a developed nation. The federal budget deficit is declining, employment is growing, inflation is down, and the stock-market is coming off its best three-year performance in history. Analysts and investors should not be too enthusiastic, however. Low interest rates tied to an influx of foreign capital is one reason for US economic growth, but that capital exposes America to risk if those countries suffer. One analyst claims that all US growth is tied to the fact that wages remain low despite high employment.

The real bottom line
Article Abstract:
President Bill Clinton's impeachment by the House is expected not to adversely affect the stockmarket. Many believe that Clinton's impeachment news was not a surprise, thus discounted by most investors. Similarly, other believe that factors such as institutional failures in Japan or a down-shift in corporate profits will impact the stockmarket far more than Clinton's impeachment or removal from the office.

The milestone that wasn't
Article Abstract:
The Dow Jones came within 41.23 points of hitting the 10,000 mark but fell back in points. The fact remains that Dow's 10,000 mark has no economic significance, rather it is symbolic and psychological. However, Standard & Poor's 500 index, an important broad market indicator, finished above 1000 for the first time.
