US is facing a mixed bag of positives and negatives as seen by the strengthening of job growth but there is an uncertainty about the duration for which it will last and its effects on the markets. Oil prices have reduced but remain high by historical terms while the US fiscal and trade deficits are rising and the value of the dollar is falling.

Why Japan's recovery could be trouble for the U.S

Japan has been the poster child for economic stagnation, the product of a housing and stock market exacerbated by a financial system. Japan's insatiable appetite for U.S. debt is driven by its desire to keep the yen low in relation to the U.S. dollar, in order to stimulate the economy by making its exports cheaper compared with other nations.

Economists are increasingly worried about the huge and rapidly growing, United States current account deficit that reached a record US$145 billion in the year 2004. It is a growing problem that could affect not only the U.S. economy, but the global economy too and Canada could be a prime victim.
