Ex-smokers get the blues

Research into the benefits of cigarettes has revealed nicotine's potential as an antidepressant, although it can be argued that giving up smoking can lead to depression. A study in Britain, published in The Lancet, shows that of a group of depressives who smoke, those who gave up smoking successfully were more likely to suffer serious depression within six months than those who were unsuccessful at giving up smoking.
