Fee disclosure is important especially in the cases of annuities and complying pensions as without this disclosure, people may unknowingly divert their Superannuation Guarantee contributions towards more expensive funds, the effects of which will be felt for a long time. Retirees should opt for self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) and then set up their income stream themselves, which will help in reducing the cost of regular income stream.

The superannuation changes issued by Peter Costello, the Australian Treasurer, delivered a possible gain to some and a significant loss to others and created confusion for the industry's technical experts, who are working hard to clarify areas of uncertainty regarding changes to self-managed super funds (SMSFs). Those who could take advantage of the government's enhanced co-contribution scheme would be the big winners.
