For-profit TSE would see regulatory restructuring

Article Abstract:

The members of the Toronto Stock Exchange will vote on a new for-profit structure at the exchange's annual meeting on June 10, 1999. Under the proposed plan, the regulatory functions will be shifted into a separate division independent of the trading operations to eliminate conflicts of interests. The regulatory divsion could also sell its servies to new providers of electronic trading systems.

TSE must look abroad to grow: OMERS chief

Article Abstract:

The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE) is planning to forge a merger with foreign stock exchanges to sustain its growth. TSE is planning to link up with the London Stock Exchange in Britain and Frankfurt Exchange in Germany. The move would help Canadian companies to raise capital abroad, boost liquidity of Canadian stocks and enable Canadian firms to merge with foreign companies.
