Prison reform: New Mexico savagery
Article Abstract:
A prisoner takeover of the New Mexico State Penitentiary at Santa Fe in 1980 was aimed at killing prisoner informants and enemies over issues such as gambling debts. The uprising was the result of overcrowding, understaffing and mismanagement of the prison, wherein concerns of prison staff that had already warned about such a disaster had been ignored.
