GM Canada trimming 1999 vehicle prices
Article Abstract:
General Motors of Canada Ltd. is slashing prices on its 1999 model vehicles. The price cuts will amount to 0.8% on average for vehicles sporting the same standard equipment as 1998 versions. The move is in response to increased competition that is expected to lead to lower or flat prices in the new model year. Observers, however, say the price cut is not like GM, which said the price cuts are partly designed to narrow the gap between manufacturers suggested retail prices (MSRPs) and retail prices. MSRPs that are higher than the competition could turn away potential customers, said Don Johnson, the company's director of brand management.

Cambridge top candidate for Toyota expansion
Article Abstract:
Toyota Motor Corp's car assembly facility in Cambridge, Ontario, is the Japan-based firm's main candidate for new investment in North America. Aside from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc, the firm is also considering its new facility in Princeton, IN. The plan is in line with Toyota Motor's bid to boost its Canadian and US sales to over 1.6 mil cars in 1999. The Canadian has the advantage because its workers have proven that they are capable of handling the complexity of manufacturing two different vehicle platforms.
