GM goal: keep on truckin'

Article Abstract:

General Motors Corp. (GM) aims to restart its assembly plants and revive auto sales. GM's main priority is to revive production of its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups at plants in Oshawa in Ontario, Canada, and in Pontiac, MI. The automaker also aims to resume production in its sport-utility facilities in Janesville, WI, and Arlington, TX, along with its other truck plants. The move by GM, which has already reopened its Corvette plant in Bowling Green, KY, and its Silao, Mexico, truck plant, is prompted by the nearing end of the nagging strikes in the firm.

GM starts up 2nd pickup plant

Article Abstract:

General Motors started preliminary production of its new pickups nicknamed GMT800 at its Pontiac East plant in Pontiac, MI, on Jul. 13, 1998. This was despite the strikes of 9,200 workers at the Flint Metal Center and the Delphi East parts complex in Flint, MI. GM said 2,800 workers returned to work to its Pontiac East plant. GM's Oshawa, Ontario, plant, Saturn in Spring Hill, TN, a small car-facility in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, and the Pontiac plant are the only four of GM's 29 assembly plants in operation.
