Gas-sipping Honda set for USA

Honda Motors Company Ltd is expected to make its Honda VV hybrid available in the US by Nov 1999 or Dec 1999. The two-seater vehicle, which runs on a 1-li, three-cylinder gasoline engine, also utilizes an electric motor that makes it capable of achieving fuel efficiencies of as high as 70-miles-per-gallon. Honda, which will have the most fuel-efficient car in the US with the release of the Honda VV, expects to sell only 5,000 to 6,000 of the vehicle annually as long as fuel remains inexpensive.

Daimler could sell some assets

DaimlerChrysler is preparing a plant that calls for the sale of portions of its struggling Chrysler unit if layoffs and plant closures are not enough to get Chrysler into profitability. The German/US automaker has tapped the services of Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan Chase on how to resuscitate Chrysler. DaimlerChrysler Chmn Juergen Schrempp is under extreme pressure to make Chrysler profitable again. Critics say Schrempp should resign if Chrysler's problems bring down the entire company.

Can Tiger make Buick roar?

Buick Co has announced a five-year endorsement deal with golfer Tiger Woods. The $20 million-$25 million deal will feature Woods in three television spots in 2000, the first to be aired in February. The spots will be created by McCann-Erickson Worldwide. As part of the deal, Woods will use a golf bag with Buick's logo on the PGA tour. Woods also has high-end endorsement deals with Rolex, American Express, Nike, golf equipment maker Titleist and Japan's Asahi.
