Gates firm focuses on future of photo images

Corbis provides electronic visual images of fine art and current and historical photographs intended for commercial and consumer use. The privately held company of Microsoft's Bill Gates has already obtained the rights to 25 million photographs that include many of the world's most recognized images such as Albert Einstein sticking out his tongue, Marilyn Monroe with her skirt flying up and the nature photographs of Ansel Adams. 3Com rethinks mode of profit beyond modems

3Com Corp's CEO Eric Benhamou admitted that the firm has committed mistakes in business strategies. The CEO revealed that 3Com's concentration on modem manufacturing and sales, network interface cards and personal organizer computer production has contributed to increased earnings. However, the bundling of modems into new and cheaper computer systems created a severe impact on its income. The company is also facing lawsuits filed by shareholders for inappropriate business practices.

Microsoft unloads Sidewalk Web sites
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Corp's Sidewalk entertainment Web sites were acquired by Ticketmaster-CitySearch (TMCS). The move will allow Microsoft to concentrate on its online shopping services and an Internet 'Yellow Pages' directory. Microsoft's Internet properties are now mainly focused on transactions, including sales of homes, autos and airline tickets. With the sale, Microsoft now owns a 9% stake worth at TMCS worth around $240 million.
