GM and the CAW appear to be far from resolving the issue of outsourcing, and tightening supplies of GM cars are causing prices to rise. A prolonged strike will eventually affect service and parts distribution. GM prepared for a protracted strike by stockpiling parts and increasing production.

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Auto Workers are striking GM plants in Canada to protest shifting of parts production to outside contractors. GM is Canada's largest private-sector employer. A complete shutdown of its operations in Ontario and Quebec could affect the national economy.

Why the CAW is wrong

Article Abstract:

The CAW is ignoring the economic realities of global competition that are driving GM to outsource jobs to lower-cost suppliers. In the global economy, job security only comes from being able to adapt to changes in the economic status quo.
