Axcan expected to match LHC bid for Scandipharm

Montreal, Canada-based Axcan Pharma Inc is expected to up its $85-million offer to purchase Birmingham, AL-based Scandipharm Inc to equal Wilmington, DE-based investment firm LHC Corp's competing offer of $8 per share, or $98 million. Axcan aims to provide Scandipharm shareholders an alternative to LHC's offer by amending its current offer of $7 per share. Shares of Scandipharm, a leading supplier of drugs and nutritional supplements for treating cystic fibrosis, is owned by employees, local investors, management, the founding Wingett family and LHC.

Dimethaid stock rises 8% on expectations for arthritis lotion
Article Abstract:
Dimethaid Research Inc's announcement that it will introduce results of phase III clinical test on its topical arthritis lotion Pennsaid at at medical convention in Vienna, Austria, sent the Markham, Ontario-based drug company's stock price up 8%. Results indicated that the group receiving Pennsaid treatment showed statistically significant pain relief. Pennsaid is currently in wait to be approved by regulatory agencies in the US, Canada and the UK.
