In a surprise, Kmart gives a $100 million account to the New York office of TBWA/Chiat/Day

A new $100 million Kmart Corp. ad campaign was given to the New York City office of TBWA/Chiat/Day. Campbell Mithun of Minneapolis, MN, which handled the account for five years, has been dismissed and TBWA will take over in Jan. 2001. TBWA, not even a player in the intitial account review, hopes to aid Kmart in promoting a customer bond, driving sales and leveraging the Kmart brand.

BMW picks a shop to introduce its Mini car to the United States

BMW of North America has selected Crispin Porter & Bogusky to fashion a campaign for the new version of the mod Mini Cooper, not sold in the U.S. since 1967. Crispin executives and employees are delighted to comply with BMW's plan to give the car longevity beyond a fad, in the vein of the VW Beetle. Expect to see pop culture in the selling of the groovy Mimi. Some reports are that the campaign is between $25 - $40 million.
