Criticism of China was widespread among the estimated 30,000 attendees at the Sep 1995 United Nations Conference on Women in Beijing. Critics were especially rankled at China's overzealous security and harsh visa policies. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton took China to task in a featured speech.

A parent's nightmare: a misfit's pursuit of revenge ends in a massacre in the gym of a Scottish primary school
Article Abstract:
The small village of Dunblane, Scotland is grieving after 16 first graders and one teacher were murdered on Mar 13, 1996. The gunman, Thomas Watt Hamilton, was a loner and suspected pedophile. He killed himself after the massacre. Twelve other children and two teachers were injured.
