AOL Canada, Regional Cablesystems sign Internet deal
Article Abstract:
AOL Canada Services Inc, a subsidiary of Dulles, VA-based America Online Inc, has signed an agreement with Regional Cablesystems Inc that will allow the company to offer high-speed Internet access via cable-TV networks. The new service will be offered starting in the fall of 1999 to subscribers of Regional Cablesystems in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, which was selected as AOL's entry point because no ISP serves the area an Regional Cablesystems recently upgraded its cable network in the area.

Canadian leads Ameritech north

Ameritech Corp.'s $5.1-billion acquisition of a 20% stake in Bell Canada from BCI Inc. is part of the company strategy to expand its foreign operations. The company already owns a 41.6% stake in Denmark's Tele Danmark and 17.5% in Belgium's Belgacom. Ameritech has boosted its foreign investments by 65% to $10.9 billion in 19998. Ameritech is also seeking the approval of the FCC on its $56-billion merger with SBC Communications in 1998.
