Ipsco plans new U.S. mill
Article Abstract:
Ipsco Inc., a steel maker based in Regina, Saskatchewan, plans to construct a $400-million to $450-million steel plate mill in the Southern USA. Ipsco board of directors approved the proposed mill to equal its existing Montpelier, IA, plate mill, which has a capacity of 1.25 million tons of steel plate. However, the decision to push through with the plan, which will be decided by the board in late 1998, is dependent on existing market conditions and other factors. Ipsco senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Mario Dalla-Vicenza, however, reports the new mill will likely be located on the Mississippi/Missouri River system despite reports that three sites in the Southern US are being considered.
