Iron will
Article Abstract:
Joseph Stalin on June 24, 1948 order Soviet forces to close all roads and rail and river links between Allied occupied West Germany and West Berlin. The only remaining links was the narrow air corridors that was patrolled by Soviet fighters. The sustained airlift prevented the starvation of 2.5 mil Berliners and 6500 troops. Although much has been written about the American and British airmen, recent books are also acknowledging the fact that airmen from Australian Air Force also participated in this historical mission.

Frozen dream
Article Abstract:
A balloon expedition planning to fly over the North Pole in 1897 vanished and remained a mystery until recently. Norwegian sailors hunting seals found the expedition's last campsite in the 1930s, but the reason for the explorers' death was not known until after World War II. In 1948, a Danish scientist suggested the three explorers may have died of lead poisoning due to improper canning techniques for their food.
