Jury tells Ford to pay $153M in child's death
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor was ordered by a jury to pay $153 million to a Nevada couple for the death of their child stemming from a defective parking brake. The award consists of $2.3 million in general damages and $150.9 million in punitive damages. The jury sided with the contention of the couple's lawyer, Shanin Specter, that the brake of the Ford F-series 350 pickup can "spontaneously disengage" under some situations. The victim, Walter White, the 3-year-old son of Jimmie and Ginnie White, was run over by the truck after falling off or jumping out and ending up under the vehicle's wheels.
