Article Abstract:
The effects of government intervention in mass media are examined, focusing on media cross-ownership laws supported by Paul Keating of the Labor Party. Effects include the forced exit of the Fairfax firm from the television broadcasting industry, and restrictions on its ability to market itself as an Internet site.
