Laurentian lifts dividend despite drop

Laurentian Bank of Canada has posted a record profit for fiscal 2001 and given shareholders a 7% dividend increase, despite a decrease in fourth-quarter earnings. The bank posted a profit of $23.5 million for the three months ended Oct. 31, a decrease from $30.1 million a year earlier.

CIBC's profit quadruples

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce has reported that its profit has risen sharply for the third quarter. CIBC, which is led by chief executive officer John Hunkin, said that it earned $788 million in profit in the quarter.
