Liberty gets stake in game shows

Article Abstract:

AT and T's Liberty Media Group's interactive media subsidiary Liberty Digital will acquire a 50% equity interest in Sony Pictures Entertainment's 24-hour Game Show Network (GSN) for $275 million in cash and stock. The deal is expected to be finalized by Dec 31, 2000. It will enable viewers of the network to participate interactively with the game shows that are broadcasted by GSN through their digital set-top boxes. Jupiter Communications has predicted that roughly 30% of US homes could be using set-top boxes for interactive television, which is a $25-billion industry, by 2005.

NBC in talks to buy 32% of Paxson

Article Abstract:

Paxson Communications Corp and NBC-TV, a unit of General Electric, are working on the details of a $400-million deal that involved NBC acquiring a 32% stake in the West Palm Beach, FL-based broadcasting company. Aligning with NBC would allow Paxson to challenge the No. 6 TV network in the US, UPN, whose future is now uncertain following the $36-billion deal with Viacom/CBS.
