The creation of the Commonwealth of Australia has been said to be a miracle. Victoria and NSW were both suspicious of each other and they often questioned who would control the federation. However, the movement towards the federation almost collapsed as Britain sought to retain legal powers and alter the section of the Constitution dealing with the High Court.

The Italian jobs
Article Abstract:
Italian prisoners worked as indentured farm employees in Australia during War War II. The men worked mending fences, chopping wood and participating in other farm chores. The Australian Workers' Union opposed the idea, saying slave labour threatened the jobs of their members. Many Italians wanted to stay in Australia after the war ended.

Ode to a lost sheep
Article Abstract:
Joris Browning, the younger brother of Robert Browning, was sent to Australia in 1848 by his father to avoid the scandal caused by Joris's fraudulent check-writing. Joris began a sheep ranch and was visited by Robert. The brothers brought sheep on horseback to an agricultural show.
