List prices are the latest technology dinosaur

Article Abstract:

Companies throughout the computer industry are eliminating list prices to stay competitive. The fierce marketing strategy of direct marketing companies has forced prices down and has led some companies to reevaluate the use of sticker prices that differ from actual street prices. NCR, Zenith Data Systems, Compaq and AST Research have all decided to revamp their pricing policies. Smaller companies that sell directly to customers can afford to offer one price that is less expensive than the dealers who are offering products at a markup. Dell Computer Corp is involved in a few legal battles with other manufacturers over marketing and advertising campaigns that may unfairly depict product comparisons.
