Lord of the rings
Article Abstract:
The implementation of free-market principles in the Australian telephone and television industries has been marked by mishandled public license auctions and failed entertainment ventures. The industry's largest players, Telstra and Optus, have spent a total of $5 billion in trying to compete with each other's cable television offerings. The government is working to preserve a competitive telephone service industry by preventing monopolistic takeovers. Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairman Alan Fels discusses efforts to preserve a competitive industry.
