Intel to pay a dividend, its first ever; move could attract more mutual funds
Article Abstract:
Intel Corp will start to distribute cash dividends for the first time in the company's history. Stockholders will receive ten cents a share on Dec 1, 1992 and will receive regular quarterly payments. The dividends should make Intel stock less volatile and help increase the investor base because some mutual funds only invest in stocks that pay dividends. Intel has been able to grow despite an industry-wide recession and increasing competition. Company representatives stated that the company now has enough cash flow and faith in the future to afford dividend programs and research and development programs. Analysts believe Intel may take the role once occupied by IBM as a solid and secure blue chip technology stock.

Intel's good fortune is surprisingly good
Article Abstract:
Intel surprises its investors with its 4th qtr 1992 earnings of $428.6 million, or $1.97 per share, more than double its 4th qtr 1991 figure of $188.7 million, or 90 cents per share. The semiconductor giant's stock rose to $8.125 on Jan 13, 1993, the day it reported its profits. Intel's rosy performance is attributed to its leadership in the microcomputer chip design market. Its financial performance record has made the company the new leader in Wall Street, taking the place of consumer companies, such as Coke, on which investment portfolios were previously based. Intel derives some 75 percent of its revenues and 85 percent of earnings from its 486 chip.
