The announcement that Murray Hill, NJ-based Lucent Technologies Inc.'s first quarter earnings will not meet expectations, helped to raise the share price of Brampton, Ont.-based Nortel Networks Corp. Nortel Networks, which is a fiber optics equipment manufacturer, is one of Lucent's primary rivals.
