Major airlines raise fares up to 4%

The US' major airline companies are nearing the successful implementation of an air fare increase of as much as 4%. The move, which gained further momentum after Northwest Airlines Inc decided to match the fare increase initially made by Delta Air Lines Inc, is expected to result in a 4%-increase in advanced-purchase tickets and a 2%-rise for unrestricted travel. The fare hike is supported by other major airlines including America West, Continental and American.

United 'plans ahead' with ad campaign

United Air Lines Inc has revealed its intention to launch a marketing campaign in mid-March 2001, introducing the resulting airline from its acquisition of US Airways.
