Phones with no cords but many options

Article Abstract:

A comparison of three cordless telephones, the Plantronics 900-megahertz CT10 cordless headset telephone, the Siemens 2.4-gigahertz Gigaset 2420 cordless phone and answering system and the Bang and Olufsen Telecom 2.4-GHz BeoCom 6000. The Plantronics is the best hands-free solution, but on the downside, works with only a single phone line, has a tiny keypad, and its battery falls off easily. The BeoCom 6000 has the best aesthetic design, excellent sound and range, but it is a single-line phone and is impractical for the home office. The Siemens Gigaset 2420 offered the best combination of design, features and practical convenience, with its two-line capacity, many features and security features that foil eavesdroppers.

Heading north to the wireless future

Article Abstract:

Ericsson and Nokie are developing then next generation of pocket sized communications devices for wireless Internet access. Japan and Scandinavian countries lead the world in use of cellular phones; these countries are seen as the test markets for this technology. The devices are based on a new communications standard, 3G, which transmits data at 2 mil bits per second. The industry hopes telecoms around the world will adopt the Universal Mobile Telephone System, and do away with the hodgepodge of different national standards. Meanwhile, telecom providers are upgrading the existing 2G wireless network with the Wireless Application Protocol and the General Packet Radio System standards.
