Navigating a turnaround

Article Abstract:

British Airways PLC CEO Robert Ayling is confident that his three-year turnaround plan will bring back the airline into profitability. The company has seen its stock price battered because of its heavy dependence on the trans-Atlantic market, where capacity is growing. Ayling's plan calls for the replacement of jumbo 747 aircraft with smaller 777s, luring more business-class customers with the fall 1999 offering of a new Club World 'flying bed' seat and strenghtening cooperation with its Oneworld alliance partners.
