Nortel shares sink after hours

Brampton, Ont.-based Nortel Networks Corp., which is a leading telecommunications equipment maker, has seen its stock share price decline by 12% after an earnings warning. Nortel, which is laying off another 5,000 workers, said its earnings projections are uncertain for the rest of 2001.

Nortel Networks Corp. saw two additional analysts reduce the company's profit forecasts for the 2001 year. Analysts believe Nortel will post 63 US cents per share in 2001 operating profits, compared to 2000's 74 cents.
