Nova Scotia to sell Sydney Steel to consortium

Sydney, NS-based Sydney Steel Corp. will be sold to a consortium that includes S and K Steel, Titanium Corporation of Canada and other six companies. The Canadian government has tried to sell financially troubled Sydney Steel, which employs about 650 workers, several times before this final deal.

Lugano, Switzerland-based Duferco Group will acquire Sydney, NS-based Sydney Steel Corp. from the government of Nova Scotia for $7.6 million. Duferco, which already has invested $3 billion in Sydney Steel, will privatize the steel mill.
