Transplant crisis? Blame clean living

Article Abstract:

Vancouver, BC-based Urban Futures Institute has reported that high levels of good health among Canadians are contributing to a low transplant rate. The report showed that organ donation is at a low level due to government health care and vehicle safety programs.

Cash infusion will attract top minds

The R. Samuel McLaughlin Foundation has given a $50 million gift to the University of Toronto for biomedical research. The university will spend $150 million on biomedical research, including hiring the world's top scientists.

OHA funding report puts onus on hospitals to raise cash privately

A new 54-page report from the Ontario Hospital Association offers advice for hospitals that are suffering from financial problems. The report, which supports cooperation between hospitals and the private sector to increase profits, claims that financing from tax revenuews will not reverse hospitals' declining fortunes.
