This article focuses on the state of preparations to deal with the so-called Year 2000 computer problem (Y2K) in Australia and elsewhere. Relevant points include that the new year will dawn earlier in Australia than most other places and will thus serve as an early warning beacon, the lack of preparedness by small businesses in Australia, the vulnerability of some Asian countries, and the need to avoid panic and hysteria concerning Y2K.
