Article Abstract:
Proponents of food irradiation must first educate consumers on the viability of the technology they advocate and begin using the technology on year-round food products. While lack of government approval for some applications of the technology has slowed down development, different government agencies are starting to study possible regulations to encourage food irradiation. One of the more important steps towards making food irradiation more acceptable is the commissioning of the National Research Council to study the technology and other alternatives more thoroughly.
