Oxford, BurCon holders okay merger
Article Abstract:
Oxford Properties Group Inc. and BurCon Properties Ltd. shareholders have agreed to capitalize and form a new public company from Burcon's subsidiary at separate meetings in Vancouver, BC, and Toronto, Ontario. Under a merger agreement, Oxford will acquire BurCon by offering 0.74 Oxford common shares and 0.70 common shares of Burcon's subsidiary, Concord Pacific Groups Inc. for each of BurCon's 33.3 million outstanding common shares. In effect, Oxford will issue 24.8 million new shares for BurCon. Among the major shareholders of BurCon are Hong Kong businessman Peter Chan, Charles Chan and Li Ka-shing. The merger is expected to close on May 29, 1998.

CIBC, HP announce joint venture

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce's (CIBC) Intria Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. of Palo Alto, CA, have entered a joint venture, called Intria-HP, to gain an advantage in the increasingly-expanding electronic business services industry in the US. Intria-HP will integrate the electronic and paper transaction processing systems of Intria Corp., with the data network creation and management expertise of Hewlett-Packard. Initially, the joint venture will employ more than 750 people when it commence operation in fall 1998 and is projected to bring in over C$1.5 billion in revenue in the next four years.
