Partners plan art-house cinema chain

Alliance Communications Corp. of Toronto, Canada, a producer and distributor of ingenious films, has teamed-up with Famous Players Ltd. to form a national art-house theater chain for moviegoers that love quality art films. Under the team-up, the two firms would invest up to C$30 million to put up or lease 12 to 15 multiplex art-house locations, which will operate under the name Alliance Cinemas. Famous Players will have a 49% stake in Alliance Cinemas, which will be headed by Leonard Schien, one of the creators of the Vancouver Film Festival. The partnership is seen by both parties as a way to boost Alliance's distribution lines and a means to market Famous Player's branding concept.

Cineplex unveils marketing fund

Cineplex Odeon Canada has created the Cineplex Odeon feature film marketing fund to help Canadian distributors. The fund will hand over C$3.75 million to distributors over five years. Cineplex Odeon has also turned over its 25% stake in Toronto, Canada-based Cineplex Odeon Films to the Institut national de l'image et du son in Montreal, Canada, the National Screen Institute in Edmonton, Canada, and the Toronto-based Canadian Film Centre. The divestment is part of the complicated sale of Cineplex Odeon's 75% stake at Cineplex Odeon Films to Alliance Communications Corp. for over C$5 million.

Behaviour sells its film distribution arm
Article Abstract:
Behaviour Communications Inc has announced the sale of its Canadian film distribution unit to Industry Communications Inc of Montreal, Quebec, for C$4 million. The distribution business includes a library of about 400 lesser-known film, TV and video titles. Industry Entertainment is majority owned by a company controlled by Behaviour director David Reckziegel and businessman John Hamilton. BHVR Communications, which owns a signficant interest in Behaviour, also holds an undisclosed stake in Industry.
