A ruling by a Saskatchewan judge made striptease dancing legal in the province's bars. Dan Guimond, who runs a hotel in the small town of Burr, recently hired a striptease dancer and his business is booming. Some area residents oppose the dancing, but so far the opposition has been muted.

The number of children being home-schooled in Canada is now around 60,000, an increase of almost 50% since 1992. Overcrowded classrooms, violence and lax educational standards are some of the reasons why parents opt for home-schooling. Some families belong to home-school networks.

Canadian Airlines announced on Nov 1, 1996, that unless it could slash $200 million from its budget, it would go out of business in early 1997. The airline was in a similar position in 1994 before AMR Corp bought a 25% stake in the company for $246 million.
