Plucked from a watery grave
Article Abstract:
The US submarine Sealion sank the Rakuyo Maru, a Japanese merchant ship, in 1944. No one on board the Sealion knew the Japanese ship was carrying over 1,000 British and Australian prisoners of war. Former junior officer Joe Bates filmed the rescue and showed it in 1999 to surviving Australians.
