Australian Prime Minister John Howard's government back downed on two measures related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The Australian Catholic Healthcare Association announced that pensioners in nursing homes will not benefit from the 4% compensation increase because nursing homes get 85% of their pensions. Another development was about Ventolin inhalers used by 2 mill asthmatics in Australia, which would be subject to 10% GST.
