Political moves
Article Abstract:
The campaign speeches of both Pres George Bush and presidential candidate Bill Clinton highlight welfare reform. Bush aims to speed up implementation of the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program through a waiver of AFDC rules. In contrast, Clinton plans to put a two-year limit on AFDC benefits. Other political agenda which involve welfare reform are a Democratic plan to include public-service employment as a choice for welfare recipients and a California plan to limit the size of welfare families by welfare cuts for mothers who bear additional children while under the welfare program.

On Oct 15, 1998, experts will gather at the White House to discuss school safety and the massacres that stunned the American public. President Bill Clinton and these experts will discuss ways to prevent teenagers from getting access to firearms, signals to look for when adolescents reach the breaking point, and social factors that could be responsible for these tragedies.

The Cinton approach
Article Abstract:
Observers have noted a lack of enthusiasm in US Pres Bill Clinton's administration to pursue previously stated campaign promises aimed at solving the drug problem in the US. Since his inaguration into the White House in Nov 1993, Clinton has instead reduced the number of staff members of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Some attribute this to a move by the Clinton administration to distance itself from policies adopted under former US Pres George Bush.
