Prowling and spying with Nancy Drew, the un-Barbie
Article Abstract:
Nancy Drew: Message in a Haunted Mansion is a computer game that is atmospheric without being hokey. The puzzles are as good as any designed for adult-oriented games, and much fun is derived from snooping around learning about the suspects by spying on them and reading their mail. The game's weakest aspect is its conversations. The adult who reviewed the game enjoyed it immensely, and his nine-year-old girl relative pronounced it 'cool,' as did the child's mother.

A teenager with a (very) big problem
Article Abstract:
In The Longest Journey, the player guides the protagonist, April Ryan, through a beautifully rendered 23d Century future. April has to solve a series of puzzles to save the world. The game is a welcome and intelligent contrast to the violent shoot 'em ups that now dominate the U.S. market. The April character will appeal to both men and women. This game may mark the end of a dormant period for the adventure game.

An adventure wears its art on its sleeve
Article Abstract:
Isabelle has blocky graphics and a lo fi synthesizer score. The game's objective is not clear, even with the use of a help file. The game may succeed on some level as art, but ignores game conventions like ease of navigation.
