Quebec City power plays: Bouchard may not get Parizeau's blessing

Former Quebec premier Jacques Parizeau, who resigned in the wake of the Oct 1995 sovereignty referendum defeat, is ambivalent about transferring power to Bloc Quebecois leader Lucien Bouchard. Bouchard has not yet decided to seek the Parti Quebecois leadership, but some women candidates are interested.

The voice of women: Quebecers fight for federalism
Article Abstract:
Molly Fripp and 12 other women in Quebec have formed a political pressure group that intends to help keep Quebec in Canada. The group has now become a 1,000-member organization and is expected to be influential in the fall, 1992 referendum that will deal with Quebec's place in Canada.

A man of the people: Quebecers remember Rene Levesque fondly
Article Abstract:
Rene Levesque created the Quebec Party in 1968, which continues to fight for independence from Canada. Levesque is respected by many for his government achievements including the establishment of an effective civil service and modernizing Quebec politics. He died in 1987.
